Epic selfie around the world video will make you want to quit your desk job right now and hop on a plane

If you played it safe and got a desk job right out of college like me, you’ve always wondered what your life might have been like had you made different choices. After working the same desk job for seven years, I burned out and was ready for a change. I quit my 9 to 5 as a magazine editor, went freelance with my company and traveled around the world on assignment as a travel journalist—all the while capturing an epic around-the-world selfie with my GoPro.

In the span of one year, I traveled through 16 countries, visiting 51 cities and traveling approximately 89,506 miles.

The countries I explored from August 2014 to August 2015 were:

Australia
Curacao
Denmark
England
Finland
France
Germany
Guadeloupe
Ireland
Iceland
Papua New Guinea
Russia
Scotland
Switzerland
Wales
USA

Because I was able to work remotely, I could write, edit and upload from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection—as long as I was mindful of the time zones.

This selfie around the world video was born out of my natural fascination with each new destination and my disbelief over the fact that I was actually traveling around the world, living exactly how I wanted for a year.

I felt like the luckiest person alive, and this selfie video will always remind me of the adventures I had this past year, from a surprise visit with my family in Munich to an opportunity to produce a series of videos celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). This was the year I became obsessed with Vegemite, tried flyboarding for the first time in Curacao, skied from France to Switzerland for a music festival, kissed the Blarney Stone and drove around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway at 160 MPH. It’s been one hell of a ride.
